Ask the Expert: Hiring a Nanny for Exclusively Breastfed Baby
Brigit asked: How well can a nanny integrate with a family that has a baby that doesn’t take the bottle, breastfed only (4 mos)?
When your baby is not used to being fed from a bottle yet, it can seem impossible to think that anyone other than you can be successful caring for your child.
My advice is:
- Hire a nanny who is competent and experienced— babies sense confidence!
- Hire a nanny you feel comfortable partnering with, because your success will also depend on your ability to let go and trust her with your baby
- Take the time you need to work with the nanny before you leave her in charge
- Once you and the nanny are ready, you will need to physically leave the house so that the nanny can be successful with this transition
When it comes to hiring a nanny, I cannot stress enough the importance of the right fit. When the right nanny becomes an extension of your parenting team, you will be able to move through your child’s various stages of development with a trusted partner by your side.
